The conseil des entrepreneurs

This council of business leaders, headed by Maire Laurent Hénart with Sylvie Petiot as her deputy, provides a forum for public/private dialogue. It enables the City of Nancy to attain a better understanding of the situations of its economic stakeholders, and to provide them with solutions. The aim is to foster an ecosystem that is relevant to entrepreneurs and boosts employment.

In order to support businesses, it is necessary to first have an understanding of their experiences on a day-to-day basis. This is a question of meeting business on their own turf, whether they are industrial or commercial, artisan or independent, producers or service-providers, from the smallest businesses through to major international groups. Setting up this day-to-day link with business within the region nurtures dialogue based on trust and partnership.

With this ambition in mind, the City of Nancy sought to create the opportunity for all economic stakeholders to have a stake in its development strategy by forming part of a new Conseil des Entrepreneurs (Council of Business Leaders).

The first meeting of the Council took place on 29 September 2015 and since then has created an opportunity for regular dialogue between the City of Nancy and the stakeholders who are creating the region's wealth and employment. Its aim is to promote links between economic stakeholders and to tackle, discuss and provide information on any subject that might facilitate local dialogue and boost attraction.

The Conseil des Entrepreneurs has 50 invited members, of whom 2/3 are businesses representing the full range of sectors and sizes, and 1/3 public or private institutional bodies.

Three meetings took place in 2016:

  • on 23 February, on the Artem Campus, where the focus was on recruitment problems. The event included a visit to the new Institut Jean Lamour premises with its ultra-high vacuum tube; an example of technological prowess that is unique in the world.
  • on 10 May, at the Hôtel de Ville, attended by the Sub-Prefect for the Economy, Imed BENTALEB, with the spotlight on the local economic situation and the strategic development plan of the new Grand Nancy metropolitan area created on 1 July 2016.
  • on 20 September, at the Lorraine University Surgery School, themed around innovation and collaborative production, with a tour round the internationally renowned research and training establishment.
